AN: Photographies

I know that in the last weeks I didn't update the blog, but I've been busy with lot of work during week and most of the remaining time has been spent in my hobbies. Also here is very very hot and sunny, during the day it's 30 ºC (measured in shadow) and my home is most of the time shot by the sun.

I finally bought some tools to help me to repair and calibrate reel to reel decks, including scopemeter, millivoltmeter, tentelometer and digital weight scale. Soon I want to write a complete article about all the DIN plugs of the Uher 4400 Report Monitor. I made most of of the adapters for my unit and I'll share all the info I've got, including about the Z124 charger.

But until that day, I'll put here some pics shot during these days.

ReVox B77 MK-II

Possibly the left reel is a ReVox novodur plastic reel and the right one is a Philips or Grundig metal take-up reel.

VID / TIP: Trashing a sticky tape

If you have bought a tape and resulted to be sticky, or a tape that you already had and is completly useless for you once you have made a copy of the content, maybe you have asked yourself how to remove the tape but keeping the reel for future use as take up reel or to be fulled with other tape.

The first step is to be sure that your tape has the sticky shed syndrome. I usually do this method:

Once is threaded by the tape path, press FF and if you note than after one minute, it goes slow, press RWD. If the tape travels very slow or even can't travel, then is a sticky tape:

Well, now how to do with the tape to trash it fast and keep the reel without having as a result a never ending spaguetti tape incident:

I use a NAB hub without flanges, just the hub, but to get at least the correct aligment position as if were with a flange, I use a CD as a separator.

Easy and fast.

Episode 2x13: Soft Touch

Revox A77 MKIV. Really, it's a MKIV but with the silver face of the MKI version. A Frankenstein A77?

UPDATE

I've just realized that the supply reel in the closer frame isn't the same that the shown in the rest of the frames. In the general shots is a Scotch and in the closer shot is an Ampex.

DES: ReVox 7" metal golden reel

Previously I did the entries for the blue and red ReVox 7" metal reels. Now is the turn of the golden "champaign" reel. Identical to the other ones, except the color.

DES: ReVox 7" metal red reel

Identical than the blue model except for the color (click here to read the entry dedicated to the blue reel), this one looks also very nice in most decks, however looks incredible in the Pioneer RT-707.

PER: Pedro Sánchez

Pedro is a reeler who lives near Barcelona and has, possibly, the most important collection of reel to reels in Spain and one of the neastest I've ever seen.

He specially likes ReVox, but also hi-end machines in general.

Here are the pics he has just sent so that can be published.
